Beautifully-presented Musical Tribute to Legendary Singer-Songwriter Rosalie Sorrels by 44 Nationally Acclaimed Artists
Some stories are so important to the fabric and history of a land that they require tremendous time and effort to tell. Such is the story of the life and times of singer, songwriter, social activist, slam poet (long before there was such a term) and self-proclaimed lover of life, Rosalie Sorrels.
Before there was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hunter S Thompson wrote the liner notes of Rosalie’s original album, Travelin’ Lady (and other personal notes meant only for her). “Her songs cut so close to the bone,” he lamented, “I get nervous listening to them.”
She is likely the only living human to have received an authentically presented "Wretched Excess of the Year Award” from Hunter.
Forty-four musicians and bands from across the country; including 8 Grammy winners and 9 Grammy nominees; recorded Rosalie’s original songs for this CD set, including Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Peter Rowan, Eliza Gilkyson, Loudon Wainwright III, Peggy Seeger, Laurie Lewis, Eilen Jewell, Pinto Bennett, Mollie O’Brien & Rich Moore, Nina Gerber, Bill Coffey, Muzzie Braun, John Németh, Emily Braden, Belinda Bowler & more! Some, including Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, Tom Russell and Jimmy LaFave, recorded their own songs written for or about Rosalie.
